The Rough fit another way to generate an approximate surface topology. I could see this used to create packaging, black box type of deliverables, or even a approximation of area use in an assembly. The Rough fit does not create a high accuracy surface, its use is for approximately defining a set of surfaces. Since this operator does not create tightly accurate surfaces, it is a great fit for bad surfaces. Such as IGES imports, other low quality free form surfaces.

This operator has a preview option (see picture on this post). With the preview you can quickly see if the operation will result in a satisfactory surface and offset value.

The images show the initial part, rough offset of 0 (zero), preview offset of 3, and the final offset value applied.
