Customer Defaults

Customer Defaults
NX3 has a new customer defaults mechanism. It adds the ability to have a Site, Group, and User setting. By default only User setting is active. To enable the additional settings you need to set the following variables:

set UGII_LOCAL_USER_DEFAULTS=
set UGII_GROUP_DIR=
set UGII_SITE_DIR=

the UGII_LOCAL_USER_DEFAULTS are set to the path + nx3_user.dpv
For example: c:\nxpreferences\nx3_user.dpv

The UGII_GROUP_DIR and UGII_SITE_DIR is set to only the path where a startup directory is present
For example: c:\nxpreferences\
Note, c:\nxpreferences\startup\ directory needs to exist. But does not require a file created there, NX will create it if Operating System permissions allow.

When you restart NX you’ll see three Defaults Level from the pull down. Control the modification of each one with Operating System persmissions. You can also have each of these defaults locations located at completely different paths. For instance, the Site setting may exist on the corporate server (available to everyone). The Group setting may exist at the local divisions server, and the User can exist on the users home computer or a common shared user specific location.

The Group and Site can lock settings. If the group locks settings no sub groups can override it. If the Group sets a setting but does not lock it the Site and User can change it. If the Group does or does not set a setting the Site can set it or lock it. It’s a hierarchal permission system. Our advice would be to not lock any settings unless you absolutely have to, and when the problems arrise lock it down as needed. This will eliminate the extreme frustration and you’ll understand more of how the company works within groups more.
