A Process, Creating a NX Model

A Process to Follow When Creating a NX Part

This is a process we use to create all NX models. It works well for all situations that we’ve come acrossed.

After creating a new part:

  • Set a layer that you use for the primary datums
  • Create 3 fixed datums on that layer
  • Change layer to a development layer, set to work
  • Create offset datums from the primary ones used in the current work layer only
  • Create construction geometry relative to the offset datums
  • Create the solid geometry, and move it to your solid layer. This keeps it organized and common

Create a new layer for each new construction geometry that is not apart of other features. So if you have a set of bosses to mount a flange, It would probably make sense to keep that on the same layer. When you create the solid bodies, move them to your standard solid layer (we usually use 1).

There are more details of how we create our part files, but they fall into the realm of best practices and for documenting how the part is created through geometry that we will cover in another article.
