Interesting product that allows you to open almost any CAD file and many image formats. More information is available at the web site (below). You can open, view, print, verify entities, measure, rotate, turn layers on and off, and more. The application looks quite amazing. The Viewer that comes with NX4 may have some strong competition when this is free and can view more formats.

Customizing Menus Dynamically

When in NX and you want to have the menu entries in different locations, you have a couple of options. First you can make your own custom menu file that modifies the location, visibility, icon, and name of the button. This takes a fair amount of technical knowledge and access to customize the way NX starts up.

There is a better way and easier way to do this dynamically.

Start NX, Tools -> Customize.

While your in the customize dialog, select any menu and you’ll see it has a different look. You can then select (hold) and drag the menu entry to any location, order, etc. The same is for any toolbar you have open. You can even rename the menu entry by right clicking on the entry and changing the name. Also you can drag the item off the menu and it is deleted from the menu. If you have a menu entry that you want in a toolbar, you can also drag it to a toolbar and hold down the ctrl button to copy it to there as well.

If you want to creat a toolbar, NX has the ability to create a new toolbar, and you can add the buttons you want to this toolbar. When you right click on the menu entry you can change the appearance of that menu entry to show image and text, only text. This goes for toolbars and menu entries.

These customizations are stored when you exit NX at:
C:\Documents and Settings\user_id\Local Settings\Application Data\Unigraphics Solutions\NX\user.mtx
which happens to be your home directory, so if you want to keep these settings on a different machine, copy or point your home directory to see the user.mtx file. If you completely mess up the interface, delete this file and all is restored.

The conclusion is that this is a great way to customize your interface without too much work.
