How to associate text to a view in drafting?

You have some text, you have some views. when you move a view you want the text to stay associated with it. Expanding the view and adding the text is not a good answer. What you can do is associated the text to the view, or for that matter any point in the view.

How you associate text to a part of the view is by:

right click on the text, selecting origin

Right Click on Text
right click on text
text origin associativity
Origin dialog

Select origin from the popup dialog. There the Origin dialog will be displayed.

From there you can drag (if not associated yet) to a new location, relative to a view, relative to some point (any point you have, can be a control point on a view). If you toggle on associative, when the view or point is moved so will the text.

Compare Drawings

Teamcenter Visualization has the ability to compare two drawings and see what has changed.

The Drawing Compare Process is Very Simple

  • In VisView choose File->Open and select the CGM of the first drawing
  • Then choose File->Insert and select the second CGM
Notice VisView has created 2 Markup Layers

If you click on the round nodes in the Project Workspace you can turn the layers off and on. If the 2D Compare toolbar does not appear, choose View->Toolbars to turn it on. The first icon in the toolbar is to Compare 2 Layers. When you activate this icon the other icons will become active. The will also create a third layer where you can see both drawings. The first layer is set to Red, The second layer is set to Green. The third layer is the compare layer where which will display Black for the common elements between both drawings. You can display one layer at a time or a three by choosing the next 4 icons. There is also an icon to delete the compare layer. The last icon you can set your preferences for the compare.

Creating CGM files of NX Drawings
There are 2 ways to create CGM files

  • File->Export->CGM
  • Under File->Options->Save Options turn Save Drawing CGM Data On
This will save the CGM internal to the NX .prt file which can be accessed from the Teamcenter Engineering Web.

A New Focus

Up until recently I’ve made posts about once a week, usually on Monday morning. I’ve decided to refocus me efforts and release posts more frequently during the week. There will not be a set day when articles are released, like it has been in the past. I hope to add content more frequently. I hope this change will be positive. If you would like to stay up-to-date easier, I would suggest using the RSS links on this page. Any RSS aggregate will work, Google also has a nice reader available through a browser, so there is no software to download (http://reader.google.com).

Also, I’m looking into a way to offer my services easier to the community. What I offer is advice and consulting on PLM (CAD, PDM, Collaboration, Processes). This can be questions about NX, to Teamcenter, and everywhere between. Some of the questions and inquiries have been on installation, configuration, best practices, techiniques, customization, programming. This service would be offered to you through Ether. Ether handles the interface and payment handling. The content would be delivered throught a dedicated web page, email, or one-on-one phone conversation. If you think this would be more beneficial then the current formal request for service process, please let me know and I’ll dedicate more effort to getting this up and running sooner.

Email me or add a comment to this post to let me know if you think this would be beneficial.
